None of these programs was built to be sold. They were built because we needed them: we wrote them for our own offices and used them there every day, on real data, with the month bearing down. Each one stayed in-house as long as it took — months, sometimes years — until it stopped getting in the way and started earning its keep.
The day each one turned out better than anything we had paid for before, the obvious question came up: if it changed our day, why not offer it to somebody else? That is what you are looking at. Not a promise — what we already use.
